EP Review: A Light That Blinds

Saint Raymond is finally back with a new EP, A Light That Blinds. It was completely worth the wait.

This EP has such an incredible vibe to it. It kicks off with the infectious “Younger,” a song that anyone who has gotten that bubbly, butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling around a crush (so everyone, no point in denying it) can relate to. It’s a song to blast from a boom box while holding it over your head under said crush’s window. Okay, maybe that’s taking it a bit too far, but seriously, this song is amazing.

Next up is the sultry “Nightcrawling.” There’s a certain intensity in the imagery of this track that gives me chills. “Last Time” is a reminder that simplicity can be beautiful. The layers of vocals and guitars are mesmerizing, especially in the pre-chorus. The last song, “We Are Fire,” is nothing short of anthemic. I can easily imagine it being played in a packed arena with thousands of fans singing along.

In short, this EP is absolutely stunning. This is undoubtedly Saint Raymond’s best work yet. I am forever grateful for the friend who said “hey, check this guy out,” because it led me to this fantastic EP.

Bonus: Saint Raymond also released an alternative version of “Nightcrawling,” which is just as incredible (if not more so) than the original. Give it a listen below.

Song of the Week: I Want You

I love it when a friend says “hey, check this artist out. I think you would love them!” and then you actually do love them. If it weren’t for the recommendation of a friend, I probably still wouldn’t have any idea who Saint Raymond is. But thankfully someone thought to suggest him to me.

I remember putting him on shuffle on Spotify to check him out and one song immediately grabbed my attention. That song was “I Want You.” I couldn’t get it out of my head for days. This song is a feel-good bop that’ll have you dancing in no time. It’s the perfect track to end the summer with.

Song of the Week: The River

A few months ago, a friend suggested that I listen to Saint Raymond. “You love Coasts, so I think you’ll love Saint Raymond.” So on my lunch break I pulled him up on Spotify and I was immediately hooked. I left work that day having downloaded his entire discography.

Now, there’s rarely a day that passes that I don’t listen to Saint Raymond. And while all of his songs are good, an older tune called “The River” really catches my attention every time I listen to it. The layers of.guitar in the beginning are nothing short of mesmerizing, drawing you in right from the start. The smooth vocals and catchy lyrics are sure to get stuck in your head after just one listen.

Valentine’s Day Playlist

If you need some romantic songs to set the mood this Valentine’s Day, look no further than this playlist. What better way to express your love than through song?

Mandy’s picks

  • “Waves,” Sundara Karma: This song is nothing short of exotic. It’s so easy to get lost in the beautiful imagery of the lyrics and the sultry vocals. The marimba on this track is particularly captivating.
  • “Seeing Stars,” Børns: Pure, sweet pop. Børns’ angelic vocals bring this bouncy track to life.
  • “Lions,” Coasts: Seeing as how I have a line from this song tattooed on my leg, there was no way I could pass up including it in this playlist. “Love me to pieces.” That’s what Valentine’s Day is all about, right?
  • “I Want You,” Saint Raymond: “I want you, you know that.” This infectious track is the perfect way to tell that special someone how you feel about them.
  • “Sycamore Tree,” The Hunna: Ryan Potter’s vocals are the real star of this sweet track. Ranging from light and delicate to bold and powerful, Ryan sings of the unparalleled feeling of undying love.

Danielle’s picks

  • “As Long As I Need You,” Coasts: So many feels, so little time. There aren’t sufficient words to describe how much I love this song. Also it’s by Coasts so there’s that too.
  • “I Won’t Give Up,” Jason Mraz: You know those songs that you just can’t help but sing along to when they come on? “I Won’t Give Up” is definitely one of those songs for me and it’s so beautiful, pure and heartfelt.
  • “Willow Tree,” Tom Speight: Whilst we’re talking of pure and heartfelt, who does that better than Tom Speight? This gorgeous duet has it all; lyrics that will melt your heart, beautiful harmonies and lots and lots of love.
  • “Thinking Out Loud,” Ed Sheeran: If you weren’t convinced that this was the perfect choice for your Valentine’s Day playlist before, then you need to get yourself over to YouTube and watch the video. “Thinking Out Loud” is sensual and totally gorgeous.
  • “Sugar,” Maroon 5: I’m putting on my dancing shoes with this last song. Everyone needs a little sweetness on v-day and this toe-tapping tune is exactly what the doctor ordered.
