New Single from Sunflower Thieves

Female pop-folk duo, Sunflower Thieves are back with their gorgeous new single Two Halves and we’re in love.

So here’s a story for you. Way back in 2016, Girls That Gig ,a community that celebrates women in music, hosted a Network and Chill event in Leeds and as a blogger and sometimes reviewer I thought that I might just tag along.

Here I met Lily Sturt-Bolshaw and Amy Illingworth, a.k.a Sunflower Thieves, who were at the time looking for band members. Fast forward a year and I’m at a Joe Dolman gig and my fave duo are also there as one of the support acts.

The multi-instrumental talent of Derbyshire/Nottingham/Leeds based duo is perfectly showcased in their layered acoustic style that is heart felt and oh so pure.

Sunflower Thieves released their debut EP Hold the Storm  in 2017 to much acclaim and I’m so happy to hear new material in their latest single: Two Halves.

One of the things that I love about Sunflower Thieves is their mesmerising harmonies and Two Halves is no exception. If acoustic folk is your thing then I’d recommend that you check out Sunflower Thieves.

Two Halves is out now!

You can catch Sunflower Thieves live at the Derby Folk festival on the 6th October.

Gig Review: Joe Dolman

On the evening of the 15th November, I crossed over to the Fox and Newt pub in Leeds for a relaxed folky evening with Joe Dolman, Sunflower Thieves and Amy J.

3 pints of squash later and Amy J was ready to ‘Rock The Boat’ with a beautiful set mixed with her own material and covers including Passenger’s ‘Let Her Go.’

Sunflower Thieves aka Lily and Amy mix stunning close harmonies and heartfelt lyrics in their serenely calm duo set.

It was the penultimate night of tour and Joe Dolman brought ‘Something Beautiful’ to Leeds. With a mix of old and new songs and injection of soul with a Ray Charles cover Joe delivered a pure an unforgettable night.
